Show me the green - Crawl

Photobucket

I left last Monday to spend the week in Columbus, Ohio (shout out to all Ohio Streamers!). I enjoyed a week long conference in downtown Columbus - which by the way boasts at least 4 - count them 4 - pink lit buildings in its downtown skyline. We left MN on a day predicted to hit 50-whole-friggin-degrees... something the MN population would give a limb for as we stand on the brink of spring. BUT, even though I missed it here... it was a good trade as I got ONE whole 70 degree day while in Columbus, and it felt great! The warmth was enough to keep my spirits up as we returned to a paltry 42 degree, gray sky day, but at least we can finally see the grass here (not sure if the northern half of the state can say the same thing).

In honor of the green stuff... this week's majordanes crawl pays tribute to it and greener days to come! Have a great night Streamers!!!

 Dog-door Days Crawl

Photobucket

I found this wonderful picture last week and it got me to thinking
about the BIG-DOGS and the incongruence of them and doggy-doors.
So I decided to go looking for some solutions... and lo and behold- I found
some pretty SAVY stuff that WORKS for big dogs!
Shock and awe to say the least.

In a roundabout way, this also relates to the Numa-kitty.
He is a classic escape artist and sadly if he gets out
for any more than 2 mins, he goes feral (snap) just like that.
Well, I was fixing the screen door and
he made it past me
(a RARE occurrence - but he slips by other people often).
By the time I caught
up to him, it was too late.
My hands were cut to shreds,
my right thumb tip is split in two and warrants stitches,
and I am marinating in Neosporin salve trying to heal them
so I can do my job with minimal pain.
I think he was just meant to be a farm cat,
hunting mice and other critters... he seems just miserable here
with the change of the seasons. If anyone has advice let me know.
I think I have to find him a farm this summer and
put my own grief aside for his sake.
My heart breaks a little each time this happens.

(deep breath)

SO... this week's majordanes-crawl is dedicated to the doggy-door,
everything from the simple to the complex of them.
Enjoy Stream-crawlers!
Much love from the Big-Dogs!dog art

 Muddy Paws Crawlin'

Photobucket

Hey Streamers~! Well... we have no snow (for today - but more expected tomorrow!?!) so that means with the melt... comes the MUD! The danes hate this time of year! Luna... for reasons of having to lower himself to actually touch MUD... and Ava (the dirty-girl!) because she has no intention of parting with the mud once she gets in crammmmmmed into her toes! She loves it and I SWEAR she hits every mud patch in the yard?! Each trip outside is followed by me taking the rag to all eight of those muddy marauders - charging in to defile my white carpet!!!! Needless to say... I get a bit obsessive about the muddy season... but am 100% glad to see it knocking at our door!
As par for the course, muddy yards mean plenty of indoor PLAY... so I enjoy the play time vids of the majordanes pack and have a great crawl Streamers!!!

 Old Man Crawlin'

I frequently refer to Luna as the "old man" of the house. He is just now 5 years old, but for danes, it means that most of his time here with us has passed. I actually think of it as everything beyond 4 weeks of age for him, is his second chance.

Many of you know that Luna was part of a seize/rescue where his whole litter was found at 4 weeks of age, emaciated and skin rashes. There were thirteen, and 12 made it.

When I went to meet the group at 9 weeks, most of them were crazed (as most puppies are!). They were gorgeous. They were also barking-jumping-climbing and splashing their paws in the water - making such a mess. I was overwhelmed to say the least but resisted the urge to turn-tail and run. I took a deep breath and looking over the mass of swirling puppies all bouncing about, I suddenly saw one peek up...

He was waaaaay at the end, tucked in the corner. A sleepy - yawning puppy head appeared in truly delayed fashion. Without missing a beat, I threw my hand out, index finger extended and pointing... and said, "That one! The sleepy one in the corner - I'll take him!" The rest is history.

Tonight's crawl is dedicated to the ol'man of the house, who groans to herald in his afternoon nap... and to old men everywhere - Majordanes salutes you!
