As my rookie year with the Atomic Bombshell of the Minnesota RollerGirls (MNRG) begins, I find myself on the disabled list dealing with that "minor" knee injury from mid Aug. My MCL tear has kept me at bay for the last 8 weeks - ugh. I have been back on skates for the last month but no hard hitting and no falling drills. Thank the heavens I'm back on skates. With practice three times a week I was going crazy just sitting there watching everyone else have all the fun. But I know soon - VERY SOON I'll be back to feeling hits again! The DANES are great. Bath day was Monday and OH do they prance when they feel squeaky clean. They love themselves a good bath! Here's a recent shot of Nene terrorizing a woodpile dweller. She is SO funny when it comes to varmits in her yard. She sits at the window and you can almost hear her thinking "NOT ON MY WATCH!"
The boy started high school and he has a girl. They are sweet and I'm glad they have each other. Both are good kids and will do well together. They both play sports and have a sense of humor - vital in the world today. They went to their first dance together and had a great time. I was doing a league promo for the new Drew Barrymore movie -WHIP IT! - and was driving the MNRG 4Roller so they had their picture taken with it. It will be a fun story to look back on some day!

GReat pics DAlpha - and sure hope the knee gets well soon - broke my right ankle 8/20 and am still in a walking boot till next WEdnesday - finally full weight bearing as of yesterday. But after shattering the bones and having wire and screws on one side of it and a plate and screws on the other side of it - I need to be praising God for the healing!!!! Have a great weekend - June

Hey Dalpha....Wow I wonder if the sport is just making a come back as we just met a girl when the "Little One" played a Guitar Hero Competition. She was trying to get my older sons g/friends to join up. Now I have to say she wouldn't of have to ask my sons twice . She was a fire eater also. Think you'll ever skate on the East Coast? Awesome Dane picture. We almost lost one of ours last week to poisoning. He may have been eating some kind of berry that just started growing on the ground under the fence. He was so sick good thing we had gas-x and activated charcoal on hand. Hope your feeling better soon

AZRON - Yep - I made it - I AM a Minnesota RollerGirl! The summer long BOOTcamp and subsequent draft party were amazing. I was drafted to the Atomic Bombshells and they are an amazing group of women so I feel VERY fortunate to be with them. Now instead of sitting home wondering what to do with my time as my boy grows into adulthood, I am out every week working fundraisers for charities. It is wonderful and rewarding to give my time and energy and a much better use of it!

Grrrrrl! AwwwBells:) That photog is some kind of mad-genius behind the camera - but you're right derby agrees with me! Let's me exercise my naughty side more often so dust can't settle on it. hee Appalachia has to be in full fall colors by now and I bet it is breathtaking to see. I LOVE the fall. The color patches actually make me smile when I spy one here and there.

June! My goodness?! You'd fit right in with derby women! We've had so many breaks, sprains, and tears since BOOTcamp that it appears to be an epidemic around here. Glad to here the healing is coming along. The body is an amazing thing to heal itself with the grace of god. Be patient with it and take it slow so it heals right the first time! Right! Like she needs to be taller?! hah:) We looked out and saw her up there and I actually felt bad for the little mouse that was no doubt cowering under a log hoping the monster went away SOONer rather than later. Poor thing. hah:) That Nene - she's a hunter - no question about that! And the boy... what a good person he is becoming. I think they have a lot of respect for each other and it makes me proud. One eye on them at all times too! Teenagers have to make such big decisions to become adults, and we just pray they make the right ones.

Hey MISTY! Yep - the resurgence has been since 2001 and it began in Austin TX. Minnesota RollerGirls was the 4th in the nation and now there are more than 300 worldwide. It is an amazing sport and one of the only the U.S. can claim as homegrown. What is FANtastic about it... is any body type WORKS in roller derby. That means little girls that watch us will see some BIG women and the idea of role models will be more than the stick figures they see in magazines. VERY cool to pass that along to the next generation of women.
Poisoning? I have to watch out for random growing wild berries now too! Wow, just so much against these creatures sometimes! I'm glad you were ready for it. I better get those items into my triage kit too. Glad your canine is in such good hands Mist! Be well and Happy Halloween next week! Dalpha.

After all this time - I didn't know - I am so impressed.
We just got back from New York and had a ball - come see the pictures - I got to meet Lucy (Jacque) in person and her hubby - it was awesome.
